This is Alpha Chapter #15 - 11/8/11
The Howard University Journal
(taken from the 1916 Howard University Yearbook)
Before The Hilltop was founded in 1923, the official news organ for Howard was The Howard University Journal. This weekly publication began in 1903 and served as the central news source for students on activities and events on HU's campus.
As it was throughout Alpha Chapter's history, the Bros were leaders on campus....and not just a few but ALL Bros. This extended into the journalism field. The excerpt above profiles the outgoing and incoming staff of the HU Journal for 1915-16 and 1916-17. In 1915-16, three Bros were on the staff of the HU Journal: The original I.G. (sorry IG, he has you beat by about 65 yrs), Isaac Granville "I.G." Bailey (Alpha 1914?), Jesse Solomon Heslip (Alpha 1914?) and Luther Ovid Baumgardner (Alpha 1916). The next year staff consisted of four Bros: Bro. Heslip, who was running the show as Editor-in-Chief, William Stuart Nelson (Alpha 1916, he was profile two weeks ago), Allen Jackson (Alpha 1916?) and Allen Dingle (Alpha 1916).
